My 5 year old son was recent diagnosed with sleeping apnea and these were the test results:
His SWS was at 19%
AHI 10.5 per hour
REM percentage 16.6%
Arousal's with obstructive respiratory events 19 per hour
SaO2 98%
RERA’s 9 events per hour
Cardiac rhythm normal, no PVC’s or significant leg movement noted.
What exactly is being said on this report? How problematic is it? They think his tonsils are causing the problems.
All they said was that my son was having some problems breathing at night and that needed to go back to the ENT so he could read the report and make a decision. They didn't want to say too much so I didn't know if this was serious or not.
Hello, it seems indeed that the tonsils and maybe the adenoids too needs to be removed, from the data presented here it looks that you son has frequent arousals at night due to the obestruction of the airways but luckily enough these has no effect on the heart or any other system. this is common in children is such an age and it is one of the commonest indications for tonsellectomy. dont worry

Is RAD (reactive attachment disorder) a guarantee?
If a child is taking from her biological mother at 19 months (well cared for and connected) and taken again from her foster mom at 3 1/2-4 (well cared for and connected) what are the likely physiological implications.
No, not a guarantee at all as kids are often very adaptable and having experienced healthy bonds previously is actually more likely to prevent them from developing RAD later on. RAD usually occurs in response to severe and prolonged abuse and neglect in the absence of a solid attachment. If bonding never occurs in the early years, it is unlikely to manifest later as the pre-programmed need to attach is short-circuited and the child either becomes very aloof or forms inappropriate attachments in which they cannot discriminate who it is appropriate to bond with. An early experience with healthy caregiver bonding is actually prophyllactic for RAD.

My overweight 4yo son just had his adenoids and tonsils removed. He had sleep apnea. Will he lose weight?
I have heard that sleep apnea is a cause of obesity in children.
My experience is with adults sleep apnea using CPAP machines, Using the forced air machines to open the airways during sleep does tend to loose weight! The actual operations themselves will tend to loose weight because of lack of appetite from throat pains! Activity will be the only way that your son will loose weight! Adenoids and tonsils were removed on my sister and I when we were young pre teen we lost weight only because we could not eat solid food! Ice cream only sounds like fun stuff for so long! It gets Old FAST!
WE were in fact getting too old for the operation! Your son probably got over it within less than a week!
Keep him active and he will loose weight ! Life stile change ! Believe it or not I lost about 20 or so pounds when I went on the CPAP breathing machine alone! To treat my sleep apnea . This treatment started about October of 2005 , I am 60 but I truly feel like I am 40 now!
If your husband snores you should try to get him to a sleep clinic! Maybe even you! This machine is wonderful! It is God's gift to my wife! And to me!
I just wish I had gone earlier to a lab and gotten this thing! I would of been a terror! It has given me a whole new life!
