Does sleep talking only happen during REM? What does it mean if someone talks in his/her sleep a lot?
I apparently talk in my sleep a lot, and it's not long after I fall asleep. Does that mean I'm entering REM quickly?
I'm being evaluated for a sleep disorder and have a sleep study scheduled for like 3 weeks from now.
My brother, and his son, both talk in their sleep. It happens all night long, so it's not just in the REM state. It's not too uncommon, but it is a sign you're not getting enough proper sleep.

"We are a sleep-sick society," says William C. Dement, M.D., Ph.D. According to Dr. Dement, "sleep science" has yielded a great deal of scientific knowledge about sleep--yet the general public, and even doctors, aren't aware of it. Sleep disorders are routinely misdiagnosed or ignored, sometimes resulting in medical tragedy and death, frequently leading to chronic exhaustion. In The Promise o...

Can someone explain to me what night terrors are and the stages of sleep associated with it?
In words that a 14-year-old girl would understand.
I looked it up, and I don't fully understand what websites say.
Please and thank you
I'm not a doctor, so this is completely based on my experience and understanding of night terrors and a few psychology courses. Night terrors are basically nightmares gone bad. I used to (and still sometimes do) have night terrors where I would relive a past trauma I went through. The hard part about night terrors is that you're usually in REM, which is basically just a deep sleep, and it is harder to wake yourself up. Usually someone else has to wake you up when they see that you're having a night terror. In my night terrors, for example, everything feels completely real and I can't tell the difference between the dream and reality. If I fall down the stairs in my dream, my stomach really feels like it's being flipped. If I get punched in my dream, I can really feel the hit.
So, in the simplest of terms, night terrors are horrible dreams that seem real (like you're awake) and that you can't wake yourself up from.
There are several stages of sleep which people pass through in the course of a good restful night. In each stage our sleep gets deeper, our bodies gets more relaxed and our brainwave patterns slow down. The deepest and most rejuvenating levels of sleep are associated with Delta brainwave patterns. Delta sleep is the most physically relaxed stage of sleep and is the time when the body recuperates...
Given the fact that little more than twenty years separated the First and Second World Wars, and that Irving Berlin lived a full 44 years after the end of the latter, maybe during the worst depths of the Cold War (during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, perhaps) he may fully have expected to write a third wartime musical to complement his previous two, "Yip! Yip! Yaphank" and "This Is The Army". ...
