New Sleep Apnea Mask
Recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and...?
I am getting really frustrated with the mask. I think I may have to go and get the type of mask changed to a different one but I don't know if I'm giving this one a fair chance. I can only seem to keep it on for about 4 hours at night and then I turn over and the mask moves and i wake up and can't get it to feel comfortable again and then I get frustrated and take it off. They say it takes two weeks to get used to it all but I can't even make it through a night... let alone a full 2 weeks and then forever... any advice to help ease my frustration and getting used to the CPAP machine? The mask I have now is a new type that just sits at the end of your nostrils... the one I had at the sleep clinic fit over your whole nose... I don't know what's best. Any suggestions?
And how do you use the machine when you get a cold? my sinuses are a bit stuffy so I don't know if that's part of the discomfort or not... I'm just so frustrated!
Give your mask a little more time. We tell people it takes more like 2-3 months to get used to it. We also have a 30 day mask guarantee, so we change them out at no charge if the first one you get doesn't seem to be helping.
If you get a cold, sometimes it's best to not use the machine. Are you using a heated humidifier with your machine? If not, you may want to look into it, they keep you moist while the air is coming at you so your sinus doesn't dry out.
Give it time, keep using it at least a few hours a night, it will get better. Good luck !!
